White words on black background is extremely unfriendly. Someone should tell him that.)

and here:

http://commentarysingapore.blogspot.com/2
006/10/wee-shu-min-globalisation-singapore.html
(And to quote, "Mr Wee Siew Kim [her dad, a Minister of Parliament] said he stood by his daughter's 'basic point', but added: 'As a parent, I may not have inculcated the appropriate level of sensitivity, but she has learnt a lesson." - I'll come back to this in a while.)

Ok, a couple of (rude) remarks:

1) Miss Wee, fuck you.

2) You can't write to save your life. No punctuation (and I suppose it never struck you to notice that punctuation IS grammar?), your argument's flying everywhere without supporting evidence. Your sole premises for your conclusion that you are advocating self-improvement and self-determination seems to be: Cos I say so biatch!!!!!!!

3) I quote: "finally, i admit that i was harsher than i should have been, although the the crux of my belief in self-improvement and self-determination has not changed." Wow, big words! "Crux"! Well it would have been all well and good if you hadn't actually abused the word so mindlessly! I bet it's one of those words that your GP teachers says to put in your GP essay every chance you get because it's a nifty little word that looks good, sounds good, and makes you seem well-versed in language usage.

Ok, as evidence, here's the OED:

Crux [L: see cross]
3. fig. b. . The chief problem; the central or decisive point of interest.

1888 Law Times LXXXIV. 293/2 There remained the point, which was the crux of the case, whether the defendant was under any duty towards the plaintiff. 1934 R. Benedict Patterns of Culture vii. 232 The crux of the matter is that the behaviour under consideration must pass through the needle's eye of social acceptance. 1944 J. S. Huxley On Living in Rev. 179 Culture, not ‘race’, is, again, the crux of the American problem. 1971 Sunday Times 31 Jan. 12/1 The crux, however, is accommodation. This is now widely agreed to be the main determinant of university and polytechnic expansion.

The CRUX of the matter is, your whole "apology" stands on either an atrociously careless abuse of a word, or a trick of language; because the crux of your belief in self-improvement and self-determination is your fucking elitist attitude. So if that crux is, as you say, "not changed", THEN YOU'RE STILL FUCKING ELITIST!!! And don't get me started on your response that was "never meant to be cogent". That is precisely the point you dolt. While not argumentatively persuasive, it's in fact much more reflective of true sentiments. Let me put it this way, which is worse: a guy giving you a COGENT argument that you're a bitch; or a guy who just slaps you in the face while calling you a bitch? Mr. Cogent-response should get you all riled up while Mr. Bitch-slap is just something to giggle off and dismiss?

3) Mr. Wee, what your preciously contumelious daughter needs isn't "sensitivity training". So what if she learns not to say "you're a dumb ass" but "you have much room for intellectual improvement and growth"? It just means she'll be learning to speak like a politician. Like you.
Unfortunately, I think that for an 18-year-old to express those opinions with such vehement confidence, self-belief, self-righteousness, and insolence means that there isn't much hope for her anymore. I recommend tying her naked to a tree, tar and feather her, then set her ablaze. It shall be the only illumination she will ever receive in her lifetime.

As someone else points out in another site, people like her (and this other PSC scholar who not too long ago was also caught and "counselled" for posting racist remarks on his blog -- that's right Kai, you *know* who I'm talking about --) are probably going to be the future leaders anyway. That's how this place works. Meritocracy is a myth. Like the Merlion. A benign and ideologically more attractive construction to hide the fact that something totally malicious is festering beneath the surface.

Here I am, after 23 years, only starting to feel a little more confidence in myself and my ability, my intelligence, but probably having to forgo lofty dreams of academic success because I'm one of these "middle-class"-whatever that Miss. Wee looks down on, and there you are, fat and smiling on your trip to some exotic country with a winter season, thinking about how great and wonderful you are because you are in the GIFTED Education Program, because you are one of the "elite", and know how to use the word "crux".

Maybe I have a bit of the martyr complex in me, but I know friends who are intelligent, much more sensitive (through actually mixing around and interacting with the less-than-elites who still form the majority of the population), and certainly has better English and culture than you who has to slog hard everyday at some desk-job only because they never took to the school system. But self-improvement? They can cook a better meal than you can dream of, they know European history from the Dark Ages onwards, they have a good understanding of major philosophers' work, love art, knows wine, can debate politics sensibly and COGENTLY, and certainly can spot the crux of a situation faster than you can type out "red-taloned socialites" (and don't get me started about compartmentalizing society!!!!!! WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?!? USE A DICTIONARY ONCE IN A WHILE!!).

I give up. I don't know what's wrong with this country, and I don't know why I ever thought I could stay here. I hate this place.
